There are 14 comments on Trump Immigration Ban Spurs Anxiety and Confusion

  1. A BU student is featured in cnn.com’s article, “These are the faces of Trump’s ban.” Hearbreaking that her family most likely will not be able to travel here for commencement.

The person we need to be protected from is the narcissist who was sworn in as president on Jan 20th. Normally, I wouldn’t be hoping for the next 4 years to go by quickly since I’ll be turning 50 then but seeing Trump wreak havoc from the Oval Office is even more stomach turning than the icemen’s recent sweep by Merrimack.

  2. Thank you to President Brown for articulating a clear critique of this policy and its harmful repercussions for not only Boston University but our society more broadly. What a disaster. Our poor nation led by this fascist madman.

  3. Thank you to President Brown and to all the faculty and students who have spoken up against this immoral, ill-conceived ban. And kudos to the BU Today staff who did all the legwork on this important story on the ban’s impact on the BU community. As a diverse, multicultural, internationally significant university, we need to be at the forefront in the opposition to misguided, harmful policies like this. As I keep repeating to my family, friends and students, facts matter.

  4. President Brown’s letter was encouraging to me as a member of the BU community. Thank you BU Today for being prompt in addressing these issues and please continue to report.

  5. This new order is a threat to our nation! It affects not only regular world citizens but also foreign veterans who have served multiple rounds of duty fighting for US in these foreign countries. Many muslims have fought alongside US soldiers for our freedom and many have given their lives for US. If we want to fight terrorism we can not do so without the help and alliance of other muslims. This is setting us back, endangering our troops and nation, and we need to end it for our security.

  6. I am an online graduate student at BU MET. I am so appreciative of President Brown’s letter. It shows BU’s compassion and makes me proud to be a BU student. I am so sad and outraged that this has happened. Even though I am not in Boston physically, I stand with all students and faculty in protest of this disgraceful policy.

  7. Question: Why were there no outcries or protests when President Clinton announced suspension of the admission of all refugees in his State of the Union address in 1995?

Admission to the US is a privilege and not a right. Everyone who has applied for a visa to another country understands that. It is NOT unconstitutional for our nation to deny entry to any non-citizen. It is NOT “un-American:” Every President in the 20th Century, Republican and Democratic alike, has taken steps to modify or halt immigration for periods of time. There is nothing new here, but for the fact that this is a Republican President and many of us don’t like him. That’s not enough to overlook the actions of past Presidents or to deny that their actions were all motivated by the same goal: To protect the citizens of our country and to assure our safety.

We are nation of immigrants, but of immigrants who came here legally. My grandparents came from Russia, Germany, Ireland, and Scotland; some of them were detained on Ellis Island for months.

The UN — not the USA –has been determining which refugees and from what countries have been sent here for at least 6 years. This is a responsibility I prefer our own country to hold.

There were 109 people detained on Friday when the executive order went into effect; all have been released.

  8. I am an Alumni of Boston University. I am proud to say that I went to BU!! However, I believe what PRESIDENT TRUMP is doing is what should have been done years ago. VET these people from countries that produce killers. Call it what you want, but please remember political correctness when it is your family member who is killed in the next attack done by a refugee.

  9. Chad, none of the people comitting terrors here in US have been refygees or from the 7 countries banned!! They were all US citizens or from countries Trump does business with and were not included in the ban.

  10. All of you read Saint Thomas Aquinas on migration. Do you think President Trump did?

This is a storm in a teacup. As a legal immigrant myself, I don’t question President Trumps right or wisdom in this matter.
