Reports of police impersonator stopping women on Arkansas highway were false, authorities say

Reported traffic stops of two female drivers by a police impersonator in one Arkansas county never actually happened, police say.

The Pope County sheriff's office took a report from a motorist who said she was stopped in the area of Arkansas 7 and Shiloh Road in Russellville on Sunday, according to a news release from the city's Police Department.

On Monday, police issued a warning to the public describing the "potential suspect."

The second stop was reported Tuesday to Russellville police and said to take place near the same area on Arkansas 7.

After reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing both of the drivers, authorities reportedly determined both stops never happened.

"We do not believe there is any threat to our community at this time," the release states.

The investigation is ongoing, and the case will be submitted to the area prosecutor for review.
