Genetic studies shed light on history of migration to Vanuatu(Lauren Beldi)

From the earliest settlers making their way out of southeast Asia to the current day population, researchers are filling in the gaps of the Pacific's genetic history.

Using the DNA of ancient samples from the region, two teams have released reports that shed light on migration in the Pacific.

The biggest find is evidence of a large migration of the Papuan people of New Britain island into remote Oceania about two-and-a-half thousand years ago.
