Itumbi, who was in court for a defence hearing, asked that he be given time to present the officials to testify.

"We had agreed that we take out today’s date because we shall be calling witnesses. Five of them are senators, three CSs, 14 MPs, five former MPs, and five parastatal officials who attended the La Mada meeting. We pray for a non-parliamentary day so that we can avail our witnesses," he said.

Milimani chief magistrate Susan Shitubi allowed him to produce CCTV footage on videos of the alleged meeting to assassinate Ruto. The court directed that the case be heard on Monday, March 20, when the state officials will appear in court.

Kenya’s President William Ruto said his government had invested in the region's destiny.

“Our region is united by a common yearning for peace, hope for unity, a quest for opportunity and desire for shared prosperity. It is our duty to actualise these aspirations by participating in frameworks that enhance our collective prospects of peace, security and social and economic progress,” he said.

He assured President Felix Tshisekedi, DRC nationals, the EAC region and the African continent of Kenya’s determination to restore peace in the troubled nation.

“You are not alone. The inescapable part of geography ties us together in East Africa like Siamese twins,” he said.

He said the shared values at the foundation of the East Africa Community also anchor the strong bonds connecting the nations and people of the region.

The plan is in the 2022 Finance Bill now being debated. The devolved unit proposes to start offering carwash services for as low as KSh 200 at the newly constructed KSh 6.5 million vehicle repair unit.

Repair services will cost between KSh 1,500 and KSh 8,000 for minor work and between KSh 3,000 and KSh 15,000 for major work.

The maintenance services will attract between KSh3,000 and KSh30,000, depending on the type of vehicle or machine.

Charges for minor, major and maintenance services do not include the cost of spare parts.

Governor Wilber Ottichilo’s administration proposes to charge KSh 200 for washing a saloon car.

Washing a lorry at the repair shop at Manyatta on the Kisumu-Kakamega highway will cost KSh 500 if the bill sails through the county assembly in its current form.

And with the target to collect KSh 199.9 million by June 30, 2023, the devolved unit also proposes charging KSh 1,000 to wash a combat truck and a similar amount for washing a skip loader and an exhausted.

4. Daily Nation

President William Ruto rubbished Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga’s plan to organise public meetings and demonstrations in favour of four besieged electoral commissioners.

The plan, Ruto said, was the wrong way to push for accountability in government, saying there were other ways to keep his Kenya Kwanza alliance government in check.

“We are consolidating our country, and I want to tell our brothers in the opposition to work with us, to criticise us, but let’s keep the country peaceful.I don’t think holding demonstrations and asking Kenyans to do whatever they want them to do is part of holding the government accountable,” Ruto said.

Ruto's comments on Raila’s plans came as Azimio yesterday called for a parliamentary group (PG) meeting, with the issue of the “Cherera Four” commissioners and the coalition’s way forward said to be one of its main agenda items.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has warned criminals terrorising residents in the city that they will face the full force of the law.

Speaking outside Muthurwa market after conducting an impromptu tour of the central business district (CBD) to assess the crime situation since the overhaul of the Nairobi region police command, Kindiki told the gangs not to dare the government.

"I am putting criminals on notice that if they don't abandon their criminal activities they better leave the city and leave people including traders to do their work peacefully," warned the CS.

He, however, expressed satisfaction that the crime rate had reduced in the past week since an overhaul of the security command in the city.

During the tour, the CS was accompanied by, among others, Bungei, Nairobi Region Commissioner Flora Mworoa, Central Sub County Police Commander Raphael Kimeu, and other Nairobi security team members.
