Microsoft's new Xbox One game LEAKED? What is Gears of War studio The Coalition making?

Gears of War 4 Developer The Coalition are currently working on a brand-new Xbox IP according to what we can only assume is a leaked announcment.

Multi-media production house Storylab Productions - who are an official Microsoft vendor - proudly announced on their website that they were working with The Coalition on an unspecified new IP "currently in production 2017".

However, that page has since been pulled from the company website as of earlier today, however, it's possible to still see the website thanks to a cached Google web page.

Apart from simply stating that the project was “currently in production”, no further details were available on the website about the new IP.

It's worth noting that Storylab has already worked with The Coalition on Gears of War 4 and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition previously.

So the two companies certainly have history of working together, and a new project isn't completely inconceivable.

It's also unclear what, if anything, The Coaltion could be working on, having released Gears of War 4 well over a year ago on October 11th, 2016.

What makes this leaked news all the more stange are comments made by Microsoft to GamesRadar earlier this morning.

"I found that announcement very odd, since (as far as I knew) The Coalition was a 100-percent Gears of War focused studio," wrote GamesRadar's news and feature writer Connor Sheridan.

"The studio jumping over to a new IP would be like 343 Industries announcing that Halo 6 was on hold so it could make a new fishing game or something. Very weird.

"When I asked a Microsoft representative about StoryLab's announcement, they re-confirmed that "The Coalition is exclusively focused on Gears of War" but left it at that."

Sheridan went on to suggest that the idea of "new" IP might be a misunderstanding or slightly loose interpreation.

Instead, it might be that the two teams could be working on something new within the Gears of War universe.

In much the same way that strategy game Halo Wars is nothing like FPS Halo, but contained within the same universe and made by completely seperate developers.

The only other possibility, hightened by the fact that the page was pulled Storylab Productions website, is that the team are in fact working on something new and as yet unnanounced.

There had been suggestions recently that The Coalition was working on a new Perfect Dark game with another studio.

Resetera user Klobrille, known for accurately leaking Microsoft's E3 2016 press conference, has recently teased some potential updates on several Microsoft's IP's.

Supposedly the user had access to an internal system where project entries are stored and though he was reticent to post leaks, he eventually did so via a pretend 'wishlist'.

This included a sly reference to The Coalition, where he said:

"I would love to play around with Ms. Dark again. The Coalition should definitely help if it’s a 3rd person game. I mean … Not them alone obviously."

With the list of Xbox exclusives looking somewhat limited beyond Sea of Thieves and Crackdown 3, hopefully we'll learn more over the next 6 months leading up to E3 2018.
