The Portfolio Committee on Basic Education will over the next week visit North West Province to among other things assess the state of readiness of the department to deliver the upcoming National Senior Certificate.

The visit forms part of Parliament’s role of overseeing the work of the Executive and assessing first-hand the impact of the money that Parliament appropriates to government. The committee will visit the Ngaka Modiri Molema and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati districts.

The committee will also assess the state of school environment in the district, the provision of Leaner Teacher Support Materials (LTMS), the availability and reliability of leaner transport, availability of School Nutrition Programme, the state of school infrastructure, the roll-out of ICT to improve effective curriculum delivery and well as the functionality of School Governing Bodies and School Management Teams.

On the first day the committee will meet relevant stakeholders, including both the national and provincial department of education, SGB Associations as well as organised labour. The Committee will then visit the Taung Teacher Enrichment Centre as well as Goitseonne Mankruane Storage facility.
