Prior to launching his professional boxing career, Herring served two tours of duty in Iraq as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. He competed at the London Olympics in 2012 and is a member of the All Marine Boxing Hall of Fame. Herring successfully retained his title of WBO World Champion after a fight against opponent Lamont Roach on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Chukchansi Park in Fresno, California.
